How can I apply for Financial Hardship?

Before applying for financial hardship, you will need to ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements set out by the Australian Taxation Office. If you do not meet the eligibility criteria, you may consider investigating a withdrawal under Compassionate Grounds. 

In order to process an application for financial hardship, you must provide the following documents:

  • A Services Australia (Centrelink) Q230 letter confirming you have been receiving income support for 26 consecutive weeks. Centrelink ask that you call them for
  • Centrelink Income Statement
  • A completed Financial Hardship Form 
  • Confirmation of your identity. This can include:
    • A close-up photo of two forms of ID (i.e. Australian Drivers Licence, Medicare Card, Passport)
    • A photo of yourself holding your ID accompanied with a close-up photo/scan of your ID
    • A photocopy of your ID which has been certified by a Justice of the Peace
  • Evidence of current outstanding debts (Overdue Bills, Unpaid Fines, Personal Loans). The debts can also be stated in a Statutory Declaration.
  • A rental agreement or official proof of your living arrangements
  • A bank statement/transaction listing from the last 30 days. Please ensure that the BSB and Account Number matches the bank details listed in your Financial Hardship form.
